CHAGALL, love and life

Dal 16 Marzo al 26 Luglio il Chiostro del Bramante custodirà, quale scrigno d’amore, la mostra nata da una collaborazione tra Artemisia Group ed Israel  Museum: Chagall, love and life.

Chagall, poeta sognatore, ebreo errante e nostalgico, sfida la cultura del suo Paese natio tramite lo studio dell’arte senza mai identificarsi in alcun movimento. Un viaggio in cui confluiscono mondi divergenti, le origini, Parigi, l’amore per la moglie, l’eclettismo dei mezzi utilizzati: pittura, scultura, disegno, incisione, mosaico, arazzo e scenografia.

La mostra propone disegni insoliti dell’artista, frutto di una sottile percezione della realtà, della sua interpretazione, riccamente infusi tra arte e nostalgia, ed illustrazioni di libri che svelano un aspetto intimo dell’artista, tra appunti e cancellature, così da far conoscere aspetti non comuni in un messaggio che, nonostante le vicissitudini personali,  fu sempre di forte amore per la città natale, per la cultura ebraica e per la sua amata, in un percorso da amore materiale ad ideale.

Un susseguirsi di 140 istallazioni dell’artista in cui le opere interagiscono con il visitatore in un reciproco scambio che coinvolge i sensi: illustrazioni delle Favole di La Fontaine che parlano con il visitatore, immagini in bianco e nero che prendono improvvisamente vita tramite proiezioni di colori fumosi.

Un’intera sala è dedicata all’amore dell’artista per la moglie Bella in occasione del centenario del loro matrimonio, invitando il visitatore a fotografarsi con i due amanti nell’opera “La passeggiata”.  Il tema degli innamorati nasce grazie al grande amore per la compagna: “non dovevo che aprire la finestra e l’aria azzurra, l’amore e i fiori entravano con lei. Tutta vestita di bianco o di nero, pareva levitare sopra le mie tele, guidando la mia arte”. Ed ecco quindi alternarsi nelle opere il blu del cielo, perfetto sfondo al piacere dei due amanti; fiori colorati, dono prezioso ma anche protezione assieme all'angelo che porge loro il suo aiuto; casette rurali che sembrano scivolar fuori dalla cornice; pennellate generose a bloccare le figure e lo sfondo  in un amore che vince la gravità.

Chagall fu il padre fondatore dell’Israel Museum, amicizia continuata con la figlia a cui va riconosciuto il pregio delle numerose donazioni di opere alla mostra permanente del museo, finestra intima sul mondo dell’artista.

Chagall, love and life permette di apprezzare la grande sensibilità dell’artista in un file rouge tra le molteplici sfaccettature della sua vita.

CHAGALL, love and life

From March 26 to July 26 Chiostro del Bramante will expose the exhibition born from a collaboration between Artemisia Group and Israel Museum: Chagall, love and life. It contains 140 pieces of Marc Chagall, the famous jewish artist that challenged the culture of his native country through the arts – and many he used: painting, sculpture, drawing, engraving, mosaic and tapestry - without number himself among any artistic movement.

The exhibition includes drawings and book illustrations (notable are the illustration of the fables of La Fontaine) that reveal, between notes and erasures, an intimate aspect of the artist’s life: his passionate love, strong despite his personal vicissitudes, for his hometown and his jewish culture.

Strong as much was the love Chagall felt for his wife Bella, and, for the occasion of the centenary of their wedding, an entire room of this exhibition is dedicated to her. “All I had to do was open my window,” writes Chagall, “and in streamed the blueness of the sky, love and flowers with her. Dressed all in white or all in black, she has been hunting my paintings, the great central image of my art.” So we can see paintings with blue skies, the perfect background for the two lovers; colorful flowers, a gift for them but also, with an angel watching over them, a form of protection; and rural houses that seem to slip out of the frame. Ample brush strokes that block those figures in a love that defies gravity.

Chagall was the founder of the Israel Museum, a friendship that continued with her daughter: it should be recognized to her the merit of the many donations of his father’s works that are in the museum's permanent exhibition - an intimate window on the world of the artist.

Chagall, love and life permits to appreciate the great sensitivity of the artist in a fil rouge among the many aspects of his life.
